On the Septimer Pass, at 2340 m above sea level, Roman soldiers camped about 2000 years ago. Excavations were carried out here in 2007 and 2008. Coins, Roman shoe nails and weapon parts of the Roman military were discovered. Of particular interest were slingshot leads with dies of the 3rd, 10th and 12th legions. Presumably, these legionnaires were sent from the east to the west of the empire to use them in the Alpine campaign of 15 BC. At that time, the Septimer Pass was an important supply route for the Roman army from Italy across the Alps. In the summer months, the camp, which offered space for a detachment of about 200 men, was used to secure and maintain the pass route.
