ORIGEN | CINDERELLO

Once upon a time there was a poor boy who wanted nothing more than to be a great dancer and to fly through the air. Instead, his cold-hearted stepmother forced him to wipe ashes every day. His stepbrothers mocked him and locked him up in the coal cellar. – At the other end of the city, in the high castle, lived a princess who absolutely did not want to rule. She also didn't like dancing at all. But most of all she was annoyed by the big Christmas ball that she had to organize every year in the castle. She didn't want to get married, so why the ball? – The princess and the ash boy would probably have remained lonely for all eternity if a cuddly, tough dance teacher hadn't taken them under her wing.

The Grimm fairy tale, turned upside down
Cinderello is the cheerful new version of Grimm's fairy tale. The plot goes its own way: Cinderella is a young man who is bullied by his conceited, bizarre brothers. The princess is a shy, moody teenager who doesn't know what to do with his time and defies everything he doesn't like. She sends the pushy marriage candidates into the desert and shows their mothers the house. Cinderello's stepmother is a vain lady who idolizes and belittles her wonderfully weird sons. The piece does not require fairy wonders: instead of the elf, a tireless dancing lady tinkers with the amiability of the moody youths. – A touching, lively evening for the whole family!

The romantic work, wrapped in tulle
The piece is carried by Sergei Prokofiev's romantic music, which is full of ironic allusions. The dancers appear in colourful tulle costumes, in silver-trimmed fabric panels, which Martin Leuthold designed together with Evelin Keller, Lucia Netzer-Peduzzi and Clara Calisto. The golden blue stage of the Clavadeira in Riom provides the setting for the romantic play during Advent.
