Schwindender Schnee und Schneekanonen

Description

Snow cannons rattle, slopes shrink to white stripes on a brown background, and literature looks closely. What do novels and stories tell us about a world in which winter loses its previous self-evident nature and has to be technically recreated? Between memories of snowier times, the possibilities and limits of artificial snowmaking and the conflicts that arise from it, contemporary literature lays a diverse reading trail. An evening about dwindling snow, snow cannons and what literature tells us about it.  Jonas Frick is a literary scholar from Zurich. In his dissertation, he was interested in the literary perception of acceleration in the interwar period. In a first postdoctoral project, he analysed the cultural imaginations of networked computers between 1960 and 2000. At the Uri Institute of the Alps, he heads the project "Snow nervousness and snow cannons. On the cultural perception and representation of artificial snow."
