Segantini 06: Ritorno dal bosco – Rückkehr vom Wald, 1890

Although Giovanni Segantini does not feel bound by ecclesiastical worship, he uses symbolic elements in his paintings that are assigned to the ecclesiastical faith. With the motifs church tower, cross or mother-child, he creates a religious mood. 

In this picture, in addition to elements of death, references to life are also incorporated. The roots on the sledge indicate new life and the illuminated windows suggest warmth and life in the houses.
