QUADRIN autarc is in itself a project of sustainability, self-sufficient and independent of any external factors. The module aims at the awareness of the inhabitants, who are put to the test considering reduced resources. It is about realizing the awareness of one's own energetic footprint and to cope with everyday life with reduced capacities.
Energy for hot water and space heating is obtained through a lump wood stove, with a water-guided coil insert. With the use of the oven through a firing, not only the radiated heat is used for room temperature, but also saved at the same time hot water for the boiler and storage for the installed fan heater. Thanks to the stored energy, the heating operation can be automatically regulated 24 hours. This means: That only need to fire when the heat storage no longer meets the desired temperature.
The law provides that wastewater from the kitchen and sanitary facilities must be disposed of properly. For the QUADRIN autarc, a small wastewater treatment plant (1m x 1m x 2m) is used. It handles all processes that are similar to those used in large-scale plants operated by municipalities. The discharged cleaned water is tested through a control tank before it is released to nature by percolation. Solid residues are collected in the tank and emptied in annual treatment works.
The source of water is organized by natural rainfall. The storage volume of the tank is 1,200 liters. The existing roof area of the QUADRIN autarc will probably not be enough to collect a certain amount of rainwater! Result: Water is a precious resource. What we are often too little aware of in the everyday life! Ratio example: Per person 30 liters per day is calculated (toilet, shower, cooking, sanitary facilities in general). The standard in the normal living area is calculated with 50 liters per person. The QUADRIN autarc should also be careful with the resource water in this area.
The electricity is generated by a photovoltaic system on the roof and and the back wall. The energy generated is stored in an installed battery (capacity 10 kWh) to ensure daily needs. The maximum electricity production per day is 5.5 kWh. The QUADRIN already needs 2.5 to 3 kWh to operate in stand-by mode. The rest of the generated electricity must be enough for the daily personal needs of the residents. This concerns cooking, the fridge, lighting and for the chargers of electronic equipment such as cell phones, laptops or other devices. Ratio example: for 1 kWh a normal citizen needs about 10 hours by bicycle. A professional racing cyclist generates 1 kWh in about 3 ½ hours!
