Description

On the Septimer the paths from the Engadine, Bergell, Avers and Surses meet. Up here, on a hilltop, there was even the camp of a Roman army. Our way leads to the only 3-fold watershed in Europe, at the Pass Lunghin, from where the water flows into the North Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. Soon the dark blue of the Lägh dal Lunghin accompanies us. The view falls on the Upper Engadine lakes and on the snow-white of the Scheuchzer cottongrass before we climb up to the Fuorcla Grevasalvas. It goes effortlessly between Piz d'Emmat and Piz Lagrev into the valley, until the ochre-grey tones of the rocks are slowly replaced by the green of the alpine pastures at Leg Grevasalvas. At this stage, we even switch from Europe to Africa. This geological border zone, where the supercontinents of Europe (Pennic) and Africa (East Alpine) meet, is complex. This is characterized by a fascinating variety of shapes and rocks.
