Description
At the Septimer, paths from the Engadin, Bergell, Avers, and Surses meet. Up here, on a terrain crest, there was even a Roman army camp. Our route leads to the only triple watershed of Europe, at the Lunghin Pass, where water flows into the North Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Black Sea. Soon we are accompanied by the dark blue of Lägh dal Lunghin. The view falls on the Upper Engadin lakes and on the snow-white of Scheuchzer's cotton grass before we climb up to the Fuorcla Grevasalvas. It is effortless going down the valley between Piz d'Emmat and Piz Lagrev, until the ochre-gray tones of the rocks are gradually replaced by the green of the alpine meadows near Leg Grevasalvas. On this stage, we even cross from Europe to Africa. This geological border zone, where the ancient continents Europe (Penninic) and Africa (East Alpine) meet, is complex. This is reflected in the landscape by a fascinating variety of shapes and rocks.
